Virtual Reality Home Designs

The VR headsets are designed to be worn with and without glasses. If you can see 2 metres in front of you without glasses, then the VR headset should be worn without glasses. 

If you cannot see 2 metres in front of you without your glasses the VR headset can be placed over them. A glass spacer has been fitted to the headset to prevent your glasses and the headset lenses coming into contact with each other.

Larger framed glasses may not fit inside the headset, and we recommend wearing contact lenses where possible.

Motion sickness in virtual reality is caused by conflicting brain signals — moving through a virtual world whilst being stationary in the real world. Users rarely get sick in the virtual reality of these tours, due to the headset’s 6 degrees* of freedom tracking and the mobile nature of the technology (you won’t be tethered to a computer). This allows users greater freedom of movement as the headset tracks your physical movement back and forth, up and down, and side to side in the virtual world. This reduces the feeling of disorientation and minimising conflicting signals in your brain.

*The first VR headsets offered 3 degrees of freedom tracking, meaning you could look up, down and side to side in 360 degrees.

If you suffer from chronic vertigo and feel uncomfortable wearing the VR headset, both a clickable and walkthrough tour are available using the iPad during the appointment (this does not require a headset).

Important Note: Please consult a doctor before participating in virtual reality if you have a history of photosensitive seizures, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress or heart conditions and cease participation in the virtual tour if you begin to experience any symptoms.

Whilst the virtual reality is not strenuous physical activity, we recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you can easily move around in. The technology is very realistic – so you may want to step out the length of the hallway, or get a feel for the space between the lounge and the TV in your living room.

We recommend wearing flat shoes that you feel comfortable walking around in, and wearing long hair either down, out or low (to allow the headset to be fitted to your head comfortably).

If you are using a virtual reality headset for the first time, you may need to allow time to adjust to the technology. The appointment itself will run for 30 minutes.

Whilst only one headset is available at each location, you are welcome to bring someone along with you for the appointment.

The iPad Clickable/Walkthrough tours will be available to them, or alternatively they can experience the virtual reality headset after you.

Display Homes — HomeWorld Box Hill and HomeWorld Thornton

One display home garage at each location above has been set-up exclusively for use of the virtual reality technology. You will meet a Montgomery Homes representative at the Sales Office, who will guide you to the virtual reality garage location. By using a garage, users are afforded a larger open and unobstructed space to explore the virtual home design tour.

Offices — Gateshead Newcastle and Vineyard

Both office locations have a dedicated zone for virtual reality — your Montgomery Homes representative will meet you and guide you to this zone.

Not everyone is a fan of wearing the VR headset. Each home design can also be explored through a Clickable or Walkthrough tour using the iPad (available during the appointment). This does not require the headset technology.

Whilst a range of home designs are available through this technology, we are unable to offer each individual Montgomery Homes design and facade.

There are two primary ways this technology is different:

1. Users can walk freely in 1:1 scale as though exploring a physical space. Users are not tethered to a computer or similar.
2. This technology is available on mobile devices — you can explore a home design using a headset, or clickable/walkthrough tours on an iPad or mobile phone, all at the same brilliant quality.

Montgomery Homes take the health and wellbeing of their staff members and clients very seriously. Each headset, set of controllers and iPad will be sanitised following each use.

Users are welcome to wear a face mask if desired — it will not impact the virtual reality experience, but it may feel uncomfortable under the headset.
